A Letter From Our PreSchool Teacher:

Preschool is such a fun time for young children!  It is a time to make their own friends, explore new materials, become more independent and for their confidence to flourish.  St. Columbkille’s preschoolers are given the opportunity to learn self help skills and have the opportunity to make friends and to learn through play.  They are not only learning from their teachers, but from each other.

Mrs. Janowitz has been teaching preschool for 25 years and loves to watch little learners learn self help skills and to be independent.  Mrs. Putre is part of the preschool team and we have worked together since 2023, watching these little learners grow. We offer full and part time hours, to meet the needs of all of the families.  There is also after care until 4:00.

We use the five senses to teach the children and follow their lead as they are excited to try new things.  Learning through play is a wonderful way for young children to fall in love with learning. There are several projects throughout the year that become treasures that are kept for many years. As children explore different learning opportunities they don’t realize they are learning and their world grows.

At St. Columbkille the children not only learn from Mrs. Janowitz and Mrs. Putre, but they enjoy music, art and gym specials. This gives the Little Knights other voices to learn from and the opportunity to feel like a part of the school. As we walk to specials there are often art projects and group projects that all the grades take pride in. The friends can observe what the big kids have done and the types of projects they will take part in.

The Good Shepherd curriculum is the core of our religion program. We learn a variety of prayers, explore bible stories with art and videos.  We instill treating others the way we want to be treated.  Priests come into the classroom to give blessings, greet the children and tell bible stories. This helps to build the community in the school and also with the church.

There are a lot of opportunities to volunteer in the classroom; Thanksgiving feast, cooking, science, reading to the children and holiday parties. This gives families the opportunity to meet other parents, get the pulse of St. Columbkille community and see how the children interact with one another. These opportunities also help build a bond between parents and teachers and give parents the opportunity to watch the relationships with their child’s friends and teachers bloom.

As the children continue to grow in the St. Columbkille community, the children know that their preschool teachers are watching them and rooting for them as they grow.  We see them come to school uncertain and watch them grow into independent leaders who feel the support of their St. Columbkille community in all they do.

A Letter From Our Pre-K Teacher:

St. Columbkille’s School Pre-Kindergarten Program is a five-day a week program from 8:00AM - 2:45PM. This class is suited for 4.5 year olds and young 5s. Your child should be toilet trained and able to use the restroom independently. This program prepares students academically, socially and emotionally for Kindergarten. Your child will have the opportunity to buy a hot lunch as well.

St. Columbkille School Pre-Kindergarten Program focuses on literacy, math, language, self-regulation, and social activities. Independent and cooperative working and learning stations are included alongside whole group instruction, and participate in specialized classes such as Art, Music, and Physical Education. Our classroom environment is very warm and inviting. We believe that having a fun and friendly classroom is key in your child’s success. We are also play- based, meaning that your child will be learning so much simply by being engaged in hands-on activities that are rooted in play.

The Stories of God’s Love curriculum is the religion program we use in Pre-Kindergarten. We learn a variety of prayers, explore bible stories and videos. The Priests come into the classroom to give blessings, greet the children and tell bible stories. This helps to build the community in the school and also with the church.

Mrs. Torchia has been teaching Pre-Kindergarten at St. Columbkille School for 4 years and loves seeing the growth of your child from August until May. Mrs. Jakubczak is the Pre-Kindergarten aide and we have been working together since 2022. We truly enjoy working beside each other and are a great team to help your little one strive to be ready for Kindergarten.
